Giovanni Falcone
18 May 1939 – 23 May 1992
Giovanni Falcone was an Italian magistrate who spent most of his career investigating the Sicilian Mafia. Working within the Palermo antimafia pool, he pioneered the use of financial records and of testimony from defectors such as Tommaso Buscetta, which produced the Maxi Trial of 1986 to 1987 and hundreds of convictions. He was killed by a motorway bombing near Capaci in 1992.
