Shinya Yamanaka
4 September 1962 – present
Shinya Yamanaka is a Japanese stem cell researcher and professor at Kyoto University, where he directs the Center for iPS Cell Research and Application. In 2006 his laboratory showed that adult cells could be reprogrammed into induced pluripotent stem cells using four transcription factors. He shared the 2012 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with John B. Gurdon.
