Louis de Broglie

15 August 1892 – 19 March 1987

Louis de Broglie (1892-1987) was a French physicist who introduced the revolutionary idea that matter has wave properties, laying a foundation of quantum mechanics. His 1924 doctoral thesis proposed wave-particle duality for electrons, a hypothesis confirmed experimentally in 1927. He received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1929 and later served as permanent secretary of the French Academy of Sciences.
