Jagadish Chandra Bose

30 November 1858 – 23 November 1937

Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose (1858-1937) was an Indian physicist, biologist, and pioneer of radio and microwave science. He demonstrated wireless signalling with millimetre waves in the 1890s and invented sensitive instruments such as the crescograph to measure responses in plants, founding the field of biophysics in India. In 1917 he established the Bose Institute in Calcutta, one of Asia's earliest modern research institutions.
